Above are a few pictures from our recent trip to Springfield, IL. We took Route 66 down, stopping at all the mandatory roadside attractions (hence Paul Bunyan & his giant hot dog up there). The hotel where we stayed was right downtown, literally across the street from the governors mansion and walking distance to all the attractions. Springfield itself is itty bitty (Blagojevich had some choice words about it, immortalized on a this t-shirt), but the new presidential museum was really great, and I loved the tour of the Lincoln home– the light-filled kitchen and Mary Todd’s amazing decorating, like the technicolor carpeting above. Not exactly what you think of in a buttoned-up Victorian home, huh?
