America’s Pastime

For me, this has been the summer of baseball. I’ve never been much of a sports fan, but after three years of watching my boyfriend get swept into his baseball obsession approximately 8 months out of every year, America’s pastime finally got to me, too. I even watched the reruns of Ken Burns Baseball series when they played it on PBS a while back, and one of my favorite parts was the little time capsules that baseball players, maybe even moreso that other athletes, can provide. Those crazy 70s short-shorts, woolen 30s uniforms and terrible 90s logos, watching the changing trends in baseball is a microcosm of what was going on in the rest of the world.

Paul Windle’s series “Mid (to Late) 70s Baseball Dudes” captures all that was so visually wacky and wonderful from that particular era in baseball, combined with amazing color combos, charming hand-lettering and a great sense of personality.

There’s now a zine of the drawings available– more info on getting your own here.
